Informed and guided by my mixed cultural backgrounds, each piece is a unique one of a kind painting.

All of these works are a culmination of expressing myself through painting beginning in 2014. I have discovered shapes and forms through brushstrokes channeled through me from my ancestors in the Philippines and my father’s Cherokee lineage.

Growing up my grandmother Sansa had a tablet of the Cherokee Alphabet in her living room and a portrait of Sequoyah, whom she told me was my great uncle and that he invented the Cherokee alphabet. Being very assimilated into white America my Grandmother never learned how to write or speak Cherokee, but she was very proud, from there is where my brushstrokes come from. Yet, there is more to be discovered- along my journey I have come across Baybayin an original writing system used in the Philippines before colonization. This discovery further strengthened my understanding of why certain shapes, characters, and forms reside within me.

In 2014 when I began my painting exploration, I became increasingly aware of the negative effect of visual pollution, which is to say worldwide brands have stolen our visual landscape, placing themselves on billboards, commercials, web banners, we have no choice but to look -and no one asked for this. This is my reaction towards them. More coming soon…
